PROJECT ”GARPEDANSBERGET”

Garpedance Hill, Stage 1(2004-05) Stage 2(2005-06) Stage 3(2006-07)

Initiator and realizator: Jerzy Przybyl
Project leader: Bertil Dolk

The Garpedance Hill is situated near the town of Gamleby and is an important Swedish natural phenomenon. This red granit cliff has always fascinating the local population.

The area is known for its richdom of legends and myths that can be traced in many cult places from different epochs. Many legents speak about the mythical giant Garpe and other characters intimately connected with him.

The idea and goal of the project is to create a scenario inspired by these legends with additions from my own fantasy world. The scene is that the giant Garpe has invited his friends from the region to a big party at his nest on the Garpe Hill. Some of the friends and musicians have already arrived while others are on their way. In the meanwhile Garpe is shopping in his store.

The choosen place is a owergrown viewpoint called Garpedance Hill ( Garpedansberget) There I have installed sculptures, all inspired from local legends ( trolls, elfs, nymphs, snakes, dragons etc) I have also invented figures. All works are made out of fibre concrete and are integrated in the wild nature. My wishes are that the art will grow together with nature and create a magical space where nature and art becomes one.

I am convicted that this place will attract many tourists and inspire children as well as adults.

The projekt Garpedance Hill” is financed by the local banc, municipality and  EU.
