           PROJECT "Midgård"

Midgård– is, within the Nordic Mythology, the name of the area that the Gods designated for the humans. Midgård was also the name of the renovation project of a residential area in Västervik, a small seaside in Sweden. The project was conducted between 1993- 1997.

The inhabitants were a multicultural mosaic of foreigners and Swedes. By integrating art into the monotone architecture I used the Scandinavian spiritual culture in order to create a space for integration.

Beside the overall colour setting, I created 17 monumental sculptures of fibre concrete, metal and several facade paintings. Each art piece contained a symbolic message about the human material and spiritual conditions of life.

Midgård was a pioneer project by allowing the myths play a central role in a large architectonic project and at the same time innovative from a technical point of view.
